Quality Officer

British Transport Police (BTP) are recruiting for a permanent Quality Officer based at our Force Headquarters in London.

This role offers a blended approach of home and office-working.

This role is paying £34,313.31 plus £3177.65 London Allowance per annum.

As a Quality Officer, you will report to the Deputy Quality Manager, you will support development, implementation and maintenance of the Quality Management System (QMS), operating procedures and quality standards required to meet Forensic Science Regulator Codes of Practice and ensuring compliance with international standards ISO17025/17020 for UKAS accreditation. You will provide practical support and advice in respect to the management of findings, recommendations, Internal Audit, documentation, and any other matter relating to the maintenance of the QMS. You will be required to chair meetings and provide updates on your allocated teams performance and escalate problem areas to the Deputy Quality Manager.

As a Quality Officer, you will be required to:

  • Provide support and resilience to the Quality Manager and Deputy Quality Manager to ensure that British Transport Police achieves its objectives and meet all requirements in relation to quality standards within all areas conducting Forensic Science Activities.
  • Conduct QMS audits and highlight any issues raised and recommend effective action to prevent re-occurrence as well as manage external audits in line with the requirements of the Force’s quality standards.
  • Work closely with different Heads of Departments within different forensic disciplines, to ensure accreditation standards are administered, maintained, complied with and support day-to-day activities to maintain the quality management system.
  • Assist with the production, control, updating and distribution of Quality Management System policies, procedures and forms to people internally and externally in support of overall business goals.
  • Maintain and continuously develop knowledge and understanding of the different accredited unit’s functions to ensure policies, practices and procedures meet the requirements of the relevant Quality Standards and Legislation.
  • Train and mentor new Auditors and train all forensic teams on the application of the QMS.
  • Maintain a good level of knowledge and understanding of quality standards, training, performance and competency.

    The successful Quality Officer will be required to evidence the following:

  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively with people at all levels and with different levels of technical understanding. 
  • Excellent organisational skills and ability to plan and prioritise workload. 
  • Excellent IT skills including Microsoft Office.
  • Experience of internal auditing.
  • Experience of accreditation processes.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to produce clear and concise audit reports and assist in the production of documented procedures, processes and policies. 
  • Has an awareness of International Standards and relevant guidance material, for example, BS EN ISO/IEC 17025 & 17020, ILAC G19 and Forensic Regulators Code of Practice.
