Designing Out Crime Officer

Location: Middlesbrough (with travel and working from varying sites across the Force required)

Applications are invited for the post of Designing Out Crime Officer based in the Prevention Command at Middlesbrough.

In this role you can make a real impact on minimising crime, the fear of crime, disorder and anti-social behaviour. If you want to make a difference and help protect the communities of Cleveland this could be the role for you.

We are looking for candidates who can provide specialist advice and guidance regarding the built environment at every stage of architectural design from pre-planning to the full development control process.

Amongst other duties you will be involved in:

Liaising with architects, designers, planners and developers to promote an awareness of the designing out crime service and NPCC approved crime prevention initiatives (for example, Secured by Design and the Safer Parking scheme), to build awareness of the principles of crime prevention through environmental design and to encourage adoption of recommended standards and specifications.

Providing specialist advice on the security, design and refurbishment of developments to influence their design standards and specifications in order to minimise crime, disorder, anti-social behaviour and perception of crime.

Engaging and influencing local authority planning departments to prioritise the principles of reducing crime and fear of crime as key development undefined in their creation of safe, secure and sustainable communities. Influence how local authorities use their applicable legislation and available local, regional and national funding sources to minimise crime, disorder and anti-social behaviour.

If not already qualified, this offers a fantastic opportunity for applicants as we will enrol you on the NPCC approved level 5 Diploma in Crime Prevention – Designing Out Crime training and this will be completed within the first 12 months of commencing in post.

Candidates must have knowledge of high crime risk areas and the nature of those environments, be experienced in working with partner agencies building and maintaining effective working relationships, and possess an enquiring and problem solving approach.
