The Role & Key Responsibilities

From your first day with us you will be part of a policing family making a real difference. It is our mission to identify and protect vulnerable people, prevent and respond to harm and keep people safe.

The role of a caseworker entails the maintenance and administration of digital case files keeping within Surrey Police and national procedures, timescales and legislation. This also includes maintaining the police database and records to store and retrieve information in a timely manner.

Caseworkers are a point of contact for CPS (Crown Prosecution Service), HMCTS (Her Majesty’s Courts and Tribunal Services), Probation Services as well as police officers and their supervisors to ensure that all requests and enquiries are dealt with promptly, effectively and efficiently. This will include via phone call, email, electronic tasks and letters.

You will be responsible for case progression of all live cases, taking personal responsibility to undertake all support functions, whilst identifying and resolving any blockers to ensure efficient partnership working.

A key part of this role is the utilisation of proactive activities to effectively monitor deadlines and requests, as well as collating and disseminating digital information. Personal responsibility and initiative are required to sustain data quality and case management of case files to ensure the maintenance of force integrity and public confidence.

This is a central role in our team and we need enthusiastic individuals to provide a customer focused service that responds to policing related casework by building positive, collaborative relationships with police colleagues and Criminal Justice partners.

We are looking for motivated individuals, who are capable of taking their own initiative to proactively manage cases in the Criminal Justice system to successful conclusion. This role is based at Guildford Police Station, to support the force’s commitment to provide an agile and flexible workforce, you will have the opportunity to work flexibly at home subject to successfully completing a 6-month probation period.

The interviews will be held at Guildford Police Station between 20th and 31st January 2025.

Skills & Experience

Proven ability to work to strict deadlines, managing a high personal workload whilst balancing competing demands without the need for close supervision

Competent in the use of IT, including Microsoft packages or equivalent.

The collating and maintaining digital records and databases, in accordance to a data quality to allow for easy and timely retrieval.

Good interpersonal skills, teamwork and a customer service approach to be able to deal with enquiries and when appropriate influence and negotiate with both policing colleagues and external partner agencies both verbally and in writing.

Be able to identify potential blockers such as missing or incomplete documentation and to proactively take action to seek a resolution.

Ability to achieve and maintain the internal police database. In line with this, as technology advances, the caseworker will need to demonstrate the willingness to embrace change and make suggestions for improvements.

The ability to quickly assimilate a reasonable working knowledge of the structure of Surrey Police, administrative policies and practices and an evidential awareness
