An experienced Data Architect is needed to work with multiple stakeholders representing the business, architecture and operational teams on all aspects of data & data management within the force.You will be responsible for producing business case, solution options, solution overview and high-level designs, managing the technical relationship between 3rd party vendors and providing guidance and support for the delivery on a variety of initiatives. You will apply functional knowledge and technical expertise to design systems to support our customer needs.

 

 

Main Responsibilities:

 

Develop and set data standards for an organisation, communicate the business benefit of data standards, championing and governing them across the organisation, understand where standards need to be set across an organisation, and how to set the standards within an organisation in the wider context of policing

 

Listen to the needs of technical and business stakeholders, and interpret them, effectively manage stakeholder expectations, manage active and reactive communication support or host difficult discussions within the team or with diverse senior stakeholders

 

Design, support and provide guidance for the upgrade, management, decommission and archive of data in compliance with data policy

 

Define and maintain the data technology architecture, including metadata, integration and business intelligence or data warehouse architecture

 

Approve the design of multiple data models and have a broad understanding of how each model fulfils the needs of the organisation

 

Champion data architecture both internally and through collaborating and communicating at the most senior levels across government

 

Set the standards and ways of working for the data architecture community

 

Provide advice to project teams and oversee the management of the full data product life cycle

 

Be responsible for ensuring that the organisation’s systems are designed in accordance with the enterprise data architecture

 

You undertake data profiling and source system analysis and present clear insights to colleagues to support the end use of the data

 

Evolve and define data governance, take responsibility for supporting and collaborating around wider governance, assure and integrate data services to meet the needs of multiple business services, work proactively to ensure the organisation designs architecture that considers data

 

Act as a Technical Consultant, working with Solution and Technical architects to make sure the Force’s systems are designed in accordance with the appropriate architectures

Knowledge:

 

  •  Ability to familiarise yourself with the environment, source systems, data flows and understand how they can be leveraged to meet new customer requirements is going to be an essential skill.
  • Knowledge of Current Data Engineering tools and techniques, including data integration, storage, transformation, and modelling components. Extensive knowledge and understanding of the data governance, structures, data quality and data standards.
  • Demonstrable knowledge in seeing the Big Picture and supporting organisational objectives, in moving to a digitally excellent organisation.
  • Significant knowledge of adopting and enforcing governance and assurance methods.
  • Experience of designing & implementing solutions as part of multi-stream change programmes.
  • Familiarity with business and technical concepts such as business process design, service management, applications, servers, networks and security (both technical and process).
  • Understands complex business problems and commercial frameworks and how to apply a logical, systematic approach to arrive at an appropriate solution.
  • Good communicator able to reduce complex ideas to simple terms and express these to both a non-technical and technical audience.

 

Desirable:

 

  • Strong experience of designing, implementing and migrating applications into Microsoft Azure.

 

 

Experience:

  • 5+ years of experience as a subject matter expert within the Data environment.
  • Proven experience of designing Data Architecture within a secure network ensuring compliance to accreditation regimes.
  • Azure Integration Services: Proficiency in Azure Data Factory, Logic Apps, and Azure Functions for seamless data integration and orchestration.
  • Data Storage and Management: Expertise in Azure SQL Database, Azure Cosmos DB, and Azure Data Lake for efficient data storage, management, and retrieval.
  • Data Visualization: Advanced skills in Power BI and Microsoft Fabric for creating interactive and insightful data visualizations and dashboards.
  • Big Data and Analytics: Experience with Azure Synapse Analytics, Azure Databricks, and Azure HDInsight for big data processing and advanced undefined.
  • Proven experience of collaboration, influencing stakeholders and managing relationships.

 

Key Skills:

  • A high calibre leader capable of providing thought leadership operating within both the business and technology domains.
  • Understands complex business problems and commercial frameworks and how to apply a logical, systematic approach to arrive at an appropriate solution.
  • Good communicator able to reduce complex ideas to simple terms and express these to both a non-technical and technical audience.
