Job description

We look forward to reading your application for the role of Data Protection Manager.

The selected candidate will provide independent expert guidance and leadership in support of the College’s statutory Data Protection Obligations, specifically the UK GDPR and Data Protection Act 2018. Be responsible for managing, co-ordinating and supporting effective Data Protection compliance arrangements within the College of Policing including policy, procedures, training, and guidance. Oversee and manage a robust Data Protection regime to ensure personal data is protected and individual rights are championed. Report to the Senior Information Risk Owner (SIRO) on matters of Data Protection law. Influence senior stakeholders in the management of reputational risk regarding information law. Establish a Data Protection plan for the business and deliver a continuous upskilling programme to support a positive and proportionate information governance culture shift.

Person specification

Some of your responsibilities will include:

•    Adopt collaborative responsibility for embedding Data Protection compliance across the business through training, toolkits, workshops and problem solving to ensure policies and supporting guidance are embedded and are proportionate and relevant.

•    Maintain up to date expert Data Protection knowledge, including case law and regulatory developments, to support and protect College information and assets and ensure compliance with statutory obligations.

•    Identify, analyse and influence Data Protection risks in support of the SIROs responsibilities and other internal stakeholders, taking action and responsibility for problem-solving through the provision of training, awareness-raising and tailored support or escalation to achieve resolution.

To be successful in this role you’ll need:

•    Detailed knowledge and understanding of Data Protection requirements and best practice. 

•    Proven ability to effectively manage competing priorities and business areas with conflicting business needs and priorities.

•    Ability to produce a range of reports, documents and guidance targeted at specific audiences.
