As a Police Constable you'll play a vital role in ensuring that the communities of Cleveland are kept safe. It isn’t easy but it is rewarding and can be a career like no other. We want people to join us who have a range of life experiences and backgrounds; it is vitality important that we represent all the communities that we serve.

We are very excited to announce we are launching some new entry routes into Cleveland Police, founded on effective work performance with academic achievement. They cover areas that are critical to effective policing in the 21st century such as evidence-based policing, supporting vulnerable people, dealing with cyber crime and crime prevention.

Police constable entry programme (PCEP)

The PCEP is a new entry programme that does not require you to study for a university qualification during probation. This route normally takes two years, after which, if you successfully complete probation, you become a PC. As set out in Police Regulation 10 (opens an external website in the same tab), you will need a level 3 (opens an external website in the same tab) qualification to join (two A-levels or the equivalent) or significant and equivalent work experience.

Degree Holder Programme (DHEP)

The DHEP route is where you already have an undergraduate degree in any subject, you’ll join and follow a work-based programme, supported by off-the-job learning. This route normally takes two years, and the learning you have undergone is recognised in a graduate diploma in professional policing practice when you complete your probation. Your accreditation will be received through Teesside University and will receive protective learning time.

Police Constable Degree Apprenticeship (PCDA)

During your training as an officer, you will also gain a BSc Degree in Professional Policing Practice, which will be recognised internationally. Your formal training will take place alongside your practical work in one of our many policing teams across Cleveland.
