Technical Services Internship (Undergraduate)
Are you looking to secure an internship with one of the most dynamic policing units?
Working as part of our Technical Services Department you will support investigations across the organisation with digital and technical expertise. You will have strong problem-solving skills; be able to translate real-world requirements into technical solutions; communicate effectively with technical colleagues and non-technical customers; and deliver outputs that support organisational and operational objectives.
We are offering two internships, to begin in September 2025 for a period of 10 months, to work across our capabilities, and whilst some specialisation is supported, we are looking for individuals that can work across disciplines and support our drive towards capability fusion. Our current areas of interest are:
- Cloud Computing – working to develop and deliver innovative cloud computing solutions to current policing challenges.
- Data Science – using data science knowledge and skills to transform the way the organisation uses data and derives insight from large datasets.
- Digital Forensics – extracting and analysing digital evidence, adhering to forensic principles, regulations and accreditation standards.
- Forensic Imaging – generating court-ready digital presentations and digital crime scene reconstructions using photography, videos and 2D / 3D computer graphics.
- Radio Frequency Propagation – supporting investigations through the forensic application of RF technologies such as Cellular, WiFi, Bluetooth and NFC.
- Research and Development - using skills and knowledge in cyber security or electronics and manufacturing to develop innovative solutions to policing problems.
Location - Junction 27 - M1 and Derbyshire Force Headquarters (Ripley) – travel to other regional sites will be necessary.
The must haves
- You must be enrolled in an undergraduate degree, having successfully completed the first two years of study and with full support of your university for a placement / year in industry.
- Experience of delivering written reports and verbal briefings, outlining risks, findings, results and recommendation.
- Have high levels of creativity and flexibility in approach, with a strong sense of personal responsibility.

- Salary – Grade 2 - £24,222 – £26,106
- Due to MV/SC Vetting requirements, you must have a minimum of 5 years continuous residency within the UK at the time of application.
