THE ROLE

An exciting opportunity has arisen with the Royal Falkland Islands Police (RFIP) for a positive and dynamic Detective Constable, with recent UK, Commonwealth, or Overseas Territories CID policing experience, to join the team. This is a fixed contract for up to four years and RFIP would be keen to appoint as soon as possible.

The RFIP has a long and proud history of serving the Falkland Islands Community having received an excellent independent inspection report in 2019 and welcomes you to be part of this dynamic, dedicated, and developing policing team.

With a significant military presence on the island, you will also benefit from a close working relationship with the Joint Services Police Support Unit (JSPSU).

RFIP’s aim to ensure the highest professional standards of policing are in place, and to ensure that we serve and protect our community to the best of our ability.

As Detective Constable you can be part of, a dedicated team, providing a CID Investigative 24/7 emergency service to the Falkland Islands community. Your duties will be many and varied with a range of interesting challenges. Being a small team you may, on occasions, be required to parade in police uniform.

Prevention lies at the heart of all we do and you will be called on to deal with incidents and crimes of all types both on land and sea. Regular contact with the community and other agencies play a big part in helping maintain our enviable low crime rates. You can contribute to that too, through the thorough investigation and detection of crime.

Public protection is another cornerstone of how we police. By keeping the peace, working with others and supporting and reassuring victims, you can change people’s lives for the better.

THE PERSON

The successful candidate will:

Be experienced having worked within a CID unit or specialist investigatory department

Be PIP2 qualified

Have Successfully completed the UK National Investigators Exam or hold an equivalent recognised investigatory qualification

Hold ICIDP accreditation (or equivalent)) with experience of managing complex investigations

Have keen observational skills, an eye for details and a methodical and organised approach to work

Be able to work both on their own initiative and as a member of a disciplined team

Have strong communication skills, both written and verbal

Possess good interpersonal skills

Hold a grade C or above in GCSE English and Maths (or equivalent)

Have recent UK, Commonwealth, or Overseas Territories policing experience

Hold a current, valid driving licence

Be sufficiently physically fit enough to meet the demands of the role

The Package

Fixed Term Contract, up to 4 years.

Salary range £28,482 - £35,172 per annum (Starting salary will be dependent on qualifications and experience).

An additional 10% Flexible Duty Allowance over basic salary

Eligibility for a 25% gratuity, paid upon successful completion of the contractv 30 days annual leave, plus government and public holidays (totalling 41 days leave) Relocation allowance, to help with moving costs.

Flights package for you and recognised dependents at the beginning and end of contract, and additional annual return flights contingent on the duration of the contract

Government housing for rent and a starter pack to help you settle in.
