Job Advert Description  

The South West Regional Organised Crime Unit (SWROCU) is looking for a Criminal Intelligence Analysts keen to progress their career as part of our Operations Teams.

As an analyst in the Operations Team, you will be involved in the SWROCU’s most significant investigations into Serious and Organised Crime across the region through dynamic intelligence support and supporting investigations through producing analytical products for the court process.

There will be opportunities for development and progression throughout your career as an Intelligence Analyst. You will be supporting interesting and varied work, with the ability once established to move laterally across other teams when vacancies arise. You will also be expected to achieve IPP Certification (Intelligence Professionalisation Programme) which involves developing Intelligence Analysis techniques whilst in post, a nationally recognised certificate of competency across all Police Forces & ROCUs. On completion of this, all analysts then have the option to progress from the Criminal Intelligence Analyst to the Higher Intelligence Analyst role profile through completion of a further development portfolio, attracting a higher pay scale of PO2-5 (£39,036 - £41,928).

SWROCU is a collaboration of police officers and police staff from the five South West regional forces. We’re part of a national network of nine ROCUs covering England and Wales.

We have more than 20 capabilities that staff and officers work in to Pursue offenders, Protect and Prepare individuals and organisations, and Prevent people from engaging in serious and organised crime.

Our capabilities are here to advise, to assist, or to fully adopt investigations.

We work with local forces and national partners to target and disrupt criminals posing the greatest risk of Serious and Organised Criminality (SOC). This includes offenders involved in cyber threats, economic crime, drug conspiracies, modern slavery and human trafficking, and child sexual abuse and exploitation.

Skills, experience and qualifications required

Essential:

  • Be qualified to degree level in a relevant subject or equivalent relevant experience
  • The post holder will be required to achieve and maintain IPP Certification
  • Hold a full current driving licence or be able to travel around the force / region area using alternative transport
  • Experience of intelligence analysis processes and/or intelligence led approaches
  • Experience working in an advisory/consultancy capacity - able to demonstrate professional credibility with colleagues and stakeholders
  • Excellent IT skills including extensive experience using all common Microsoft packages including Excel and specific analytical software programmes
  • Experience of quantitative and qualitative analysis including statistical analysis
  • Experience of structured analytical techniques, inference development and hypothesis testing
  • Ability to act on own initiative, to own and manage issues with minimal supervision
  • Demonstrable ability to make clear, timely and justifiable decisions based on an informed rationale.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills - including verbal and written communication

Desirable:

  • Knowledge of relevant investigative legislation (e.g. IPA, CPIA, GDPR).
  • Previous analytical experience and / or of working within a law enforcement environment
  • Previous experience of Court and of presenting evidential analytical products
  • Experience of evidential analysis products
