About the Role

Are you an experienced financial leader seeking a meaningful challenge? Wiltshire Police is on an exciting journey of transformation to "Make Wiltshire Safe," delivering the Police and Crime Plan. As our Chief Financial Officer (CFO), you'll be at the heart of this journey, advising the Chief Constable and guiding the financial strategies that ensure we meet our policing objectives.

This is a pivotal role, reporting to the Chief of Corporate Services, where you’ll work closely with senior leaders across Wiltshire Police and the Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner (OPCC). You'll provide expert financial guidance while overseeing a multi-million-pound budget, ensuring value for money, and leading a dynamic finance team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the financial management of the Force, ensuring compliance with legal and regulatory requirements.
  • Develop and implement financial strategies, budgeting, and treasury management to maximise the effective use of resources.
  • Advise senior leaders on financial risks, opportunities, and long-term sustainability.
  • Work closely with the OPCC CFO on joint financial planning, reporting, and audit functions.
  • Champion the continuous improvement of financial processes, promoting efficiency and best practice.
  • Engage with internal and external stakeholders to support strategic objectives and deliver value for money.

About You

We’re looking for a dynamic, strategic thinker with a proven track record in senior financial management. You will ideally have:

  • Qualifications: Degree or equivalent work experience, plus membership of a CCAB accountancy body (preferably CIPFA).
  • Experience: 5+ years of senior financial management in a large organisation, with experience managing multi-million-pound budgets and leading complex financial strategies.
  • Leadership: A natural leader, able to motivate and inspire teams, with a talent for managing change and driving innovation.
  • Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to explain complex financial information clearly to stakeholders.
  • Knowledge: A deep understanding of public sector finance, statutory requirements (including Section 151 duties), and experience working in regulated environments.
  • Strategic Vision: Able to think creatively and strategically, contributing to long-term financial planning and the overall success of Wiltshire Police.
