Prison Intelligence Officer (SERPIT) (CTPSE)

The South East Regional Prison Intelligence Team (SERPIT) is responsible for gathering and developing intelligence from HM Prison and Probation Service (HMPPS) and other associated establishments relating to national security issues and organised crime.

The prison hub is supported by a number of Prison Intelligence Officers (PIO’s) who are expected to work within the regional establishments. Working alongside HMPPS, they identify and exploit intelligence opportunities with a view of mitigating risk and disrupting offenders.

We now have an opportunity for a Prison Intelligence Officer to join our team. This post will work in and with prisons in the South East and it will therefore require the candidate to be able to travel to different locations. The area that this will role holder will cover will mostly be across the area of Hampshire and the Isle of Wight. Additionally, this is a hybrid role, working 27 hours per week.

The successful candidate will develop and maintain effective working relationships with Counter Terrorism Units and other partner agencies, tasked with the investigation of matters affecting National Security across the South East Region.

To be successful in this post, you must have excellent communication/interpersonal and problem solving skills, have the ability to gather and accurately record information effectively and be able to recognise sensitive information, maintain discretion, confidentiality and manage risk.

Due to the nature of the role, the successful candidate will have completed the Operational Partnership Team “Working in Prisons National Course” and National Prison Debriefing course, or be willing and able to undertake training.

Developing our talent is important. We recognise that professional progress is important and in this role, you will have the opportunity for continuous development.

You will be asked to demonstrate flexibility regarding working hours in line with operational demand and occasionally this may require working away from home. For this reason a full UK Driving Licence is essential to the role.

Due to the nature of our work, security is of paramount importance to us and therefore it will be necessary to pass and maintain vetting level SC together with a number of enhanced security checks.  In order to achieve this, you must be a British National and have resided in the UK for the past five years. Exemptions may apply for overseas or other diplomatic service (with HM Government), and studying abroad.

You can find more information about security vetting here.
