Humberside Police are looking for a highly motivated individual to join them in their Specialist Operations team as a Dog Trainer.
The post holder will be required to facilitate the selection, training, licencing and development of Dog Handlers by conducting an organised and meaningful programme of suitability, initial, continuation and specialist training.
The successful candidate must have previous experience handling and training dogs and have experience of a teaching nature.
Key Responsibilities:
- Organises and conducts suitability courses for applicants to the Dog Section ensuring that they have the necessary attitude, character and constitution to become an operational police dog handler.
- Undertakes the assessment of new dogs acquired for training purposes in order to ensure they have the appropriate attitude, character and constitution to become an operational police dog which may involve care, control and assessment of dogs for short periods whilst off duty at home address. Undertakes training for dogs with specialist roles,
- The provision of a high standard of training to all students in order to equip individuals with the skills, knowledge and techniques required to act appropriately under any predicament without jeopardising the situation or endangering any other parties concerned.
- Participates in national discussions/negotiations with regards to the development of training and provides Force wide advice on all matters concerning legislation and policy. Undertakes research re policy and new training methods.
- Completes assessments in relation to the training conducted and maintain accurate records regarding the costs of training that is delivered within the Dog Section. Highlights any areas requiring attention and recommending any action necessary for (further) suitable training. Maintains accurate records.
- Undertakes evaluation of training courses according to organisational requirements and maintains a record of training provided for all individuals/dogs.

What the role requires:
- Excellent organisational skills
- Experience of working in a confidential environment.
- Good presentation skills and report writing skills.
- Certificate of Education/NVQ Level 3 in training or equivalent.
- Previous experience of working and/or training with dogs.
- Relevant training experience including the design and delivery of course and training material.
- Possesses an appreciation of the need for confidentiality.
- Ability to work with minimum supervision when required.
- Carries out tasks in an accurate and methodical manner with an eye for detail.
- Ability to work as part of a team.
- Ability to prioritise workload.
