Description of Department:

The Commissioners Staff office supports the Chief Officers with local and regional responsibilities as well as work around the national lead for Economic Crime, Cyber Crime and Business Crime. The Staff Officer to the Service Delivery Director of the NLF portfolio assists with the following portfolios:

  • FCCRAS
  • Action Fraud,
  • NFIB
  • NECVCU
  • DDAT
  • NCRCG

The post holder supports them in discharging their duties, which include:

  • Writing structured reports and briefing notes/preparing presentations and detailed updates on strategic policy issues and actions as required
  • Undertaking research and attending a range of key strategic meetings and boards that are under the remit of the Service Delivery Director. Monitoring the progress of priority work areas.
  • Representing as and when required at meetings and providing them with relevant updates.

The post holder works as part of the wider Chief Officer support team and reports to the Inspector to the Assistant Commissioner - NLF. There is a need to be flexible to support the Service Delivery Director, and, on occasion, work extended hours and travel.

Essential criteria

  • An ability to think in a considered and joined up manner and demonstrate strategic awareness regarding issues that cut across more than one area of business.
  • Understanding of the Force Governance structure as well as an understanding of the City of London Corporation, its structure and how it operates.
  • Excellent planning and organising skills.
  • Excellent communication skills, including correspondence and report writing skills.
  • Excellent negotiating skills - the post holder will be expected to liaise with senior officers across the country and must be comfortable with negotiating upwards.
  • Proven ability to engage with stakeholders.
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure.
  • Ability to work on own initiative and with minimal supervision.
  • Flexibility and good team working skills including office cover when required.
  • Good resilience
  • MS office skills
  • Be willing to be vetted to SC level.
  • Hold current A-B police driving permit.

Desirable criteria

  • Good knowledge of MS PowerPoint would be an advantage.

The application and interview will be tested under Level 1 of the College of Policing Competency and Values Framework.
