Our recently established Data Science Unit, based in Manchester, is playing a key role in supporting the national effort to disrupt the terrorist threat and keep people safe.
The team is in its infancy and has a vacancy for the position of Infrastructure Engineer.
This role represents an exciting opportunity for the successful candidate to break new ground in CT policing - building, maintaining and improving robust digital solutions to underpin the pioneering work of the data science capability.
The Infrastructure Engineer will:
• Design, implement, administer and support infrastructure technologies, solutions and services including computing, storage, networking, physical infrastructure, software, commercial-off-the-shelf software (COTS), cloud compute services, and open-source packages and solutions.
• Ensure data science architecture is highly available, resilient, scalable and fault tolerant and meets relevant architectural standards.
• Manage local networks for the data science team and authorised external access as appropriate, maintaining and continuously improving systems to ensure optimal performance.
• Lead on technology best practices and standards, managing and mitigating risks, as well as prioritising and implementing improvements and efficiencies, ensuring that the CT Policing derives maximum value from services.
• Be responsible for maintaining the required security and integrity of the associated system through compliance activities.
Applications are particularly encouraged from individuals who can evidence experience in:
• Cloud compute services (Azure, AWS),
• Windows and Linux servers, and
• Container technologies (Docker or Kubernetes).
In addition to technical expertise, we are also looking for proactive team players who have a real passion for innovation and developing best practice for the public sector.
