Digital Forensic Technician - Student Placement

We have a fantastic opportunity for you to join our Digital Investigations Unit as a Digital Forensics Technician on a 12 month student placement where you will assist in conducting forensic examinations of computers and mobile devices in support of criminal investigations.
This placement will run from Summer 2025 to Summer 2026 and is an unpaid placement for students who are in their final year of study.
What you’ll be doing
- Conduct physical examination of items submitted for examination, disassemble; carry out forensic acquisition of data in accordance with best practice and national guidelines, then reassemble. Record all processed accurately and contemporaneously in written or electronic format and by the use of photography.
- Conduct preliminary forensic processing of acquired data, for example carving images and movies from the acquired data.
The must haves
- Strong analytical skills and excellent attention to detail, in order to examine and record fine details with precision.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication and report writing skills.
- Good organisational skills and the ability to prioritise and work to deadlines.
- A genuine interest in the field of Digital Forensics, including knowledge of computer hardware and components.
