Specialist Operations: Roads Policing Constable

Applications are invited from experienced Roads Policing Constables to join the Roads Policing team in Gloucestershire on transfer. RPU work within the Specialist Operations department, from the new Gloucestershire Police Operations Centre at Bamfurlong outside Cheltenham. They work alongside firearms and dog handler colleagues, policing our road network, attending serious RTC’s and reducing offending of our roads in support of our Police and Crime Plan priority of Creating Safer Communities.

Applicants should be committed to improving road safety, working with their team to address the locations, behaviours and people who cause the most harm.

We are looking for people who are self-motivated, good team members, can think and act sensibly under pressure and are able to display empathy to people in stressful situations. We are also looking for keen and diligent investigators who understand the importance of attention to detail.

Applicants must be confirmed in rank, be an Advanced Police Driver and have completed a Roads Policing Skills course. You will be expected to have experience of attending and investigating serious collisions, including working with other blue light services in accordance with JESIP principles. You will also be specialists in drink and drug driving, use specialist driving skills to provide tactical resolution to incidents on the road, provide a visible presence on our road network and focus on preventing and detecting Fatal Five offences and reducing criminal use of the road network.

For successful candidates there may be opportunities to further specialise in roles such as Police Motorcyclist, Commercial Vehicle enforcement and Drone Pilot.
