TR07 Transferees - Armed Officers
Transferee Police Constables who wish to work in any armed response role.
West Yorkshire has one of the largest contingents of Armed Officers in the North of England. As well as providing 24hr armed support across the Force area, we also provide the regional Counter Terrorism Specialist Firearms capability.
We are currently recruiting for a range of armed roles including:
• Existing Constables with the drive and determination to become an Armed Response Vehicle Officer.
• Existing Constables who can show a significant amount of dedication / commitment and enter the CTSFO Development program after completing the Initial Firearm Course.
• Qualified and Experienced ARVOs looking to transfer as an ARVO role within West Yorkshire
• Qualified and Experienced ARVOs looking for their next challenge and enter the CTSFO Development Programme.
• Nationally trained SFOs wishing to take the next step and join the CTSFO Development Programme.
Applications are sought from Police Constables who will have completed their probationary period by the end of June 2023, to join the West Yorkshire Police, either as an Armed Response Vehicle Officer, or join the Armed Crime Tactical Team (ACTT) as part of the Counter Terrorism Specialist Firearms Officer (CTSFO) development programme.
To become an Armed Response Vehicle Officer (ARVO), ideal candidates will be:
• Good under pressure
• Sound decision makers
• Effective at diffusing situations
• Good listeners
• Able communicators
• Leaders by example
Either as an existing or recently qualified ARVO, you will already be experienced in pedestrian, and vehicle tactics, as well as deliberate and emergency search.
You are able to pass the bleep test to level 9.4, as well as regularly achieve your qualification shoots.
To become a Counter Terrorism Specialist Firearms Officer (CTSFO), have you got the drive and determination to achieve this extremely challenging but rewarding role?
Can you pass the bleep test to Level 10.5 and achieve a rope hang for 25secs?
Do you believe you have the ability to pass the arduous Specialist course which requires over 19 weeks of dedication and commitment?
Whilst you will be rostered to work Monday to Friday days, you can be expected to re-arrange your working day at a moment’s notice to respond to ongoing threats and risk around the country as part of the National CTSFO network.
Following a shortlisting process, applicants for both the ARVO and CTSFO development programmes must attend and pass the following in order to progress:
1. Assessment day – Threat and risk evaluation scenarios, weapon handling, range time and fitness test (ARVO standard 9.4).
2. A semi-structured interview
3. Firearms medical
4. Vetting / PSD checks (Please note that some roles may require additional Security Clearance)
5. Initial Firearms Course (13 weeks)

Appointment will be subject to the standard transfer application process; interview and satisfactory pre-employment checks.
