Salary: £29,109 - £34,329 pro rata

Location: Beverley

Hours:  x1 37 Hours per week (Full-time) & x1 18.5 Hours per week (Part-time, working Mon-Wed)

Contract: Permanent

As a Subject Rights Officer, the successful candidates will Research, liaise with force and national leads to gather information and fulfil the ‘decision maker’ role under the Freedom of Information Act (FoI), Data Protection and General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) requirements, releasing information on behalf of the force relating to Freedom of Information (FOI) and data protection requests received. 

The post holder will be required to provide general advice to the force regarding data protection issues.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provides the necessary advice and support to the Subject Rights Manager and provides advice and assistance on all Data Protection and Freedom of Information matters to the Force. Represents Humberside Police at meetings, deputising for the Subject Rights Manager, when necessary.
  • Maintain the Units SPOC box and telephone line and provide information to members of the public, regarding procedures for access to information and ongoing requests and correspondence.
  • Research and liaise with the Force and National Leads to gather information and fulfil the role of a Decision Maker in line with the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act.
  • Assist the Subject Rights Manager to collate information and prepare responses to the Information Commissioners Office.
  • Provide Mandatory training and guidance to the force on the data protection issues ensuring this is accurate and drive down data breaches.

What the role requires:

  • Excellent organisational skills
  • Educated to a Level 4 standard or has equivalent experience in a similar role.
  • Experience of operating computers to input, amend, retrieve and audit information.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills to be able to communicate at all levels within the force and outside agencies.
  • Ability to collate, analyse and evaluate large volumes of information.
  • Ability to work with minimum supervision when required.
  • Ability to deal with members of the public and senior officers in a professional manner being empathetic in difficult circumstances.
  • Demonstrate the ability to use initiative and judgement when dealing with issues, requests and an understanding of when to refer matters to supervision.
