The force area is divided into five local policing areas covering Herefordshire, Worcestershire, Shropshire and Telford & Wrekin. Our investigation hubs provide modern, comfortable workspaces and continuing investment in mobile data technology means that all of our detectives are issued with smart phones and laptops. These provide live access to force systems while out of the office, enabling our teams to focus on what matters most – their investigations.

Opportunities are also available for West Mercia detectives collaboratively working with Staffordshire, Warwickshire, and West Midlands Police forces as a part of the Regional Organised Crime Unit (ROCU), working to reduce the impact and increase the disruption of serious and organised crime within the region and beyond.

Detective Constable or Police Constable – Proactive, Reactive and Vulnerability All Local Policing Areas
We currently have roles available across Proactive, Reactive and Vulnerabilty departments at all Local policing areas.
This is a wonderful opportunity for you to take the next step in your career in investigations. These roles all present an excellent opportunity for you to work alongside a team of professional investigators and gain valuable insight, knowledge, skills and ability to investigate serious, complex and specialist crime. Working in Proactive, Reactive or Vulnerability, you will play a critical role in investigating crime, giving you the opportunity to provide specialist advice and support to all investigations.
You can expect to be welcomed into a friendly, motivated, supportive and inclusive working environment.
We expect a lot from our detectives, but the rewards are great. Depending on the role, our shift patterns are either six days on, four days off, or based around Monday to Friday with limited weekend working. We have invested heavily in the health and wellbeing of our workforce, who all have access to modern gym facilities, a comprehensive 24/7 confidential support service and flexible working options. In addition, there are active sports and social club and numerous support groups open to all.
The West Mercia area is also a great place to live. There is a wide variety of towns and villages surrounded by beautiful rural landscapes. With good transport links and easy access to Birmingham and London, there is no shortage of leisure amenities and attractions. From historic market towns such as Shrewsbury, Bridgnorth, Ludlow, Hereford, Leominster, Evesham and Worcester, to the magnificent Shropshire, Clee and Malvern Hills, to modern shopping in Telford, there is something for everyone. Property prices can be very competitive, too!
