Volunteer - Cadet Scheme Leader (Abingdon)

Are you enthusiastic about supporting and mentoring young people to develop their qualities and skills and enhance the relationship between the public and police? If so, Abingdon Police Cadets need you as a Volunteer Cadet Leader.

As a leader you will:

  • Help plan and deliver activities covering a wide range of topics from policing to every day skills like first aid.
  • Help arrange guest speakers and visits.
  • Support cadets’ participation in local policing initiatives.
  • Support cadets’ participation in community projects and events.
  • Mentor and encourage cadets as they develop into young adults, inspiring them to become positive role models within their communities.

Our cadets come from a wide range of backgrounds with differing needs and abilities, but are bound by a common interest in the police and having fun. As a leader, you don’t need any previous experience of working with young people, just a desire to help them learn and have a good time.

Any officer or member of police staff can volunteer as a leader. TVP supports cadet leaders through Employer Supported Policing which allows time off during rostered duties (subject to resilience levels) and paid expenses.

We meet on Thursday evenings during term time, normally at Abingdon Police Station. In addition there are occasional events at weekends and during school holidays such as community engagement events or camps. We know that shift patterns can make it difficult to attend every week so all we ask is that you attend when you can.

If you have any queries please contact the Recruitment Department at RecruitmentPoliceStaff@thamesvalley.pnn.police.uk quoting reference 20697. We will endeavour to respond to your query as quickly as possible.

Please use Google Chrome when completing your application, wherever possible, as this will enhance performance.

The closing date for enquiries and receipt of completed applications is 30th June 2025.

Please note this vacancy may be removed early once sufficient candidates have been sourced.

As a volunteer within the police service, you will be subjected to a level of police vetting. The level will be dependent upon the role and it’s access requirements. With the higher levels of vetting, applicants could be asked to provide details of family members, partner, partner’s parents and co-residents, as well as additional information regarding their own personal circumstances. This process is required to ensure that Thames Valley Police comply with the legislation of the Vetting Code of Practice.

Whilst we endeavour to complete all vetting within 30 working days of receipt of vetting forms, unfortunately this is not always the case due to operational demand and back-logs, and could take considerably longer.

If you have any concerns or queries regarding your application please do not hesitate to get in touch.
