Checkpoint Cymru Critical Pathways Navigator
This is an exciting new opportunity championed by North Wales Police and the Police Crime Commissioner to be part of an innovative scheme as the Checkpoint Cymru Critical Pathways Navigator, making a difference within your community, diverting low level offenders away from a life of crime.
The successful candidates will be part of a team of 9 Navigators across North Wales, working with offenders on the Checkpoint programme, providing a personalised assessment of their criminogenic needs, with a view to diverting them away from offending and the Criminal Justice System.
The nature of the Navigator role requires individuals with the necessary skills and experience to support the programme and be a true representative of the communities they will be working with. Applicants need to be excellent communicators working one to one with those who have complex needs and challenging behaviours; being able to engage with them and relate to their circumstances without judgement and with the upmost integrity.
What will I need to be considered for this Checkpoint Cymru Critical Pathways Navigator role?
- Educated to HNC Level or possess relevant evidenced experience.
- Relevant experience working in the voluntary sector or the Criminal Justice system, developing effective partnerships in a multi-agency arena and preparing individual action/support plans.
- Good literacy, numerical skills and IT skills to include report and statement writing, together with an ability to use spreadsheets and computer systems to accurately input and research relevant information.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and be able to form effective working relationships at all levels both internally and externally.
- Ability to act upon own initiative, as well as part of a team and respond to changing situations.
- Good organisational, time management and self-motivation.
- Able to remain impartial whilst working with offenders whose behaviours are particularly challenging and who have multiple complex needs.
- Able to work under pressure to meet specific deadlines and demonstrate resilience when faced with the most difficult of situations.
- Flexibility and ability to work outside normal hours when required.
- Ability to travel to various locations within the organisation as required.

In line with our Welsh Language Skills policy, we’re committed to being a bilingual organisation. Prior to appointment, you’ll be required to demonstrate an attainment of Level 2 in spoken Welsh. This means that you can understand and pronounce Welsh place names and an ability to understand and use simple everyday phrases. During your probation period we’ll fully support you in achieving Level 3 skills.
