The successful candidate would be working within the POLIT (Paedophile Online Investigation Team) based at Linhay. This unit is a specialist team that deals with highly sensitive and high risk investigations into predators who use the internet to exploit children. The administrators role is to support the Detective Inspector and Detective Sergeants with tasks that keep the unit running effectively. This can range from collating performance stats to completing data return forms for the National Crime Agency. It will be a highly rewarding role as you will be supporting officers in prosecuting and convicting dangerous individuals who target children. This can at times be difficult and traumatic work. Although you will not be subjected to any indecent media, you should be aware that conversations and case document material will contain some traumatic content. We have really good wellbeing plans within the team to help with this and as such you would included so that you can benefit from our supportive measures.

The principal responsibility of the Public Protection Unit Administrator is to manage the day-to-day administration of the Public Protection Unit (PPU) service and ensure that the support services are in place to enable roles to be carried out effectively.  To be the principal point of contact for liaison with partner agencies, and conduct research and information sharing on behalf of the PPU.

In particular, to:

  • Be personally responsible for providing a professional administrative support within the PPU, following specific and laid down procedures and to established force or national professional/function-area standards.
  • Produce reports following interrogation and research of Force and national databases as required and in line with statutory deadlines.
  • Maintain all electronic and paper-based records, ensuring information in relation to various areas of public protection is archived accurately and easily retrievable.
  • Act as point of contact within the PPU to internal and external contacts; providing a customer focused response to telephone and/or face to face enquiries or requests from agencies and members of the public that may involve some specialist knowledge or subject matter expertise.
  • Inputting complex data into computer systems and bespoke databases or spreadsheets, entering information correctly, in accordance with legislative requirements and Force policy.
  • Create and update basic spreadsheets and word documents for use in managing and monitoring activity such as, for example, budgetary spend, duties, overtime allocation, stores’ inventory and action sheets/issue logs, attending any relevant meetings if appropriate.

This list of duties is not restrictive or exhaustive and the post-holder may be required to carry out duties from time to time that are either commensurate with/or lower than the grade of the post.  In some posts this might include the ad-hoc provision of guidance and informal training of new colleagues.
