Do something real. Start a career like no other.Police Officer
c. £30k
Do it to keep nearly nine million Londoners safe. You will join around 30,000 fellow officers, working across 32 boroughs - each the size of a small city. Take a look at our borough map to help you decide where you might like to work from. As a police officer in London’s Met, you’ll be pushed to be the best but rewarded with the satisfaction that you are making a real difference to our great city.
Do it to develop who you are. The challenges of policing London are unlike anywhere else but so are the opportunities that come with those challenges. You will get to help people at their lowest ebb, to protect the vulnerable and deliver the justice they deserve. You’ll be proactive - preventing crime before it happens and catching criminals before they strike – all the time acting with the integrity that fosters people’s trust. Most of all you’ll do this as part of a fantastic team.
Do it for the skills. After some of the best police training in the world you’ll be ready for whatever London throws at you – the good and the bad. We’ll support you from the very first day but it will be you that develops the skills that will keep you and your colleagues safe, which allow you to save someone’s life, to spot a terrorist planning an attack, to find and secure the crucial evidence, or to tackle a hostile crowd with the right words and actions. As you patrol alongside experienced colleagues, you’ll use those skills and refine them each and every day.
Do it for the opportunities. Few career paths offer such variety. You might become a detective, or a public order specialist dealing with the huge events and demonstrations London hosts. You could work with our dogs and horses, become a cybercrime specialist or keep the Thames safe in our Marine Unit. Maybe you’ll excel at financial investigation or supporting the victims of child abuse. Ultimately it will be up to you to choose your path and the only limit will be your ambition.
Do it because this is our capital city. London thrives as a great global city and we believe that the Met should reflect the communities it serves. We’re looking for people from all backgrounds to join us. People who can earn trust, respect and build positive relationships with all kinds of Londoners.
We have temporarily suspended our London residency criteria for a limited period.
Flexible working arrangements are available, and we have now launched our part time PC recruitment pathway which allows new recruits to work part time from point of entry.
