Job Title: Fleet Services, Performance Manager

Salary: The starting salary is £45,073, which includes allowances totalling £2,841.

The salary is broken down as £42,232 basic salary, which will increase annually until you reach the top of the scale £50,385.  Plus, a location allowance of £1,841 and a non-pensionable allowance of £1,000.

Location: Marlowe House with travel required across the MPS,

Minimum; 3 days per week working in the office

Our operational policing fleet comprises of over 5000 vehicles, 1000 pedal cycles and 25 marine vessels. Vehicles are a workplace for our officers and staff, carrying sophisticated equipment for operational policing, or providing a safe environment for the transport of the public and prisoners. By their very nature, vehicles are often used in the most arduous and challenging conditions.

Fleet Services are responsible for all aspects of fleet lifecycle management to the Met, including the performance management of internal and outsourced services.

This is an exciting time to be working as a Performance Manager for the Metropolitan Police Service. In addition to large-scale transformation, there's the unique and ever-evolving challenge of policing London.

Key Responsibilities:

Work as part of a team to ensure delivery of Fleet Services’ strategic priorities, support a culture of organisational learning and sustain the wellbeing of self and others. This role has specific responsibility to:  

  • Assist the Business Performance Manager in monitoring the performance of internal business functions to ensure KPIs and SLAs are achieved, plus the performance of suppliers during the life of a contract 
  • Produce KPI and financial performance reports to ensure the ongoing effectiveness of the department 
  • Collect and analyse relevant statistical information to enable functional teams to have current data on which to make business decisions and assist in identifying shortfalls and corrective action 
  • Lead a team involved in generating and analysing data for management reports on key performance indicators in relation to KPIs and SLAs 
  • Identify areas of concern for performance improvement of both internal units and 3rd party suppliers in order to enhance Fleet Services’ business performance 
  • Lead the delivery of change improvement activities with internal stakeholders and maintain regular involvement in other continuous improvement initiatives including external bodies 
  • Identify and manage ongoing projects within and by the team to ensure the timely delivery of outcomes, within scope and budget 
  • Assisting in ad hoc feasibility studies on the introduction of new contracts to all relevant parties 
  • Assist in market research and evaluation activities with outside bodies 
  • Work closely with the Category Managers (who will report to Commercial Services but sit in Fleet Services as a dedicated resource) to assist in monitoring supplier performance - the Category Managers will effectively manage the contract throughout its lifecycle from new tender, contract, extension, termination and exit 
  • Maintain a motivated, focused and adequately skilled team that is fully abreast of modern tools, techniques and developments within their own area of specialism 
  • Identify training and development needs of direct reports in keeping with HR policies and procedures and transfer knowledge and skills to others 
  • Take responsibility for Personal Development and keep up to date with relevant standards and legislation 
  • Maintain regular contact with Fleet Services’ teams and suppliers on all agreed, new and proposed metrics
