About the Role

We are seeking a creative, proactive and highly skilled Social Media Officer to join our team. In this key role, you will plan, produce and deliver impactful social media activity across our official channels, helping us engage effectively with our communities, enhance our online presence and support organisational objectives.

You will be responsible for creating compelling digital content, managing day‑to‑day activity across platforms, and analysing performance to ensure our communications reach and resonate with the people we serve.

This is an exciting opportunity for a motivated individual with a passion for storytelling, digital engagement and public‑facing communication.

This role is a 2 week rotating shift pattern Monday to Friday Week 1: 0800 – 1600 Week 2: 1300 – 2100


Key Responsibilities

  • Plan, create, publish and evaluate social media content across a range of digital platforms.
  • Manage the organisation’s official social media channels, ensuring tone, style and branding are consistent and professional.
  • Engage directly with online communities, fostering positive, human and professional interactions.
  • Use platform analytics and data insights to inform content strategies and maximise reach and engagement.
  • Ensure all content and activity is compliant with copyright law, music licensing requirements, media law, GDPR and data protection standards.
  • Work collaboratively within a large, multi‑disciplinary team to support shared objectives.
  • Produce written reports and performance analyses to guide future digital tactics.
  • Use creative initiative to generate new ideas, campaigns and approaches.
  • Prioritise and manage a varied, fast‑paced workload, meeting tight deadlines and organisational needs.

Knowledge, Skills & Experience

Essential:

  • Degree‑level qualification or equivalent professional experience in social media management.
  • Demonstrable experience creating content for a variety of digital formats and platforms.
  • Strong understanding of social media algorithms and effective targeting strategies.
  • Experience managing social media for a large organisation and delivering content for maximum impact.
  • Excellent writing skills with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to work across all levels of the organisation and engage professionally with the public.
  • Ability to influence, negotiate and work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Experience producing reports and analysing digital performance data.
  • Creative thinking and the confidence to work independently and develop new ideas.
  • Excellent organisational and time‑management skills, with the ability to prioritise competing demands.
  • Well‑developed analytical skills and an interest in emerging tools and trends.

Desirable:

  • Full driving licence to support travel across the force area.
