Salary: The starting salary is £40,519, which includes allowances totalling £3,009
The salary is broken down as £37,510 basic salary, which will increase annually until you reach the top of the scale £40,141 Plus, a location allowance of £2,009 and a non-pensionable allowance of £1,000.

This is an exciting opportunity to join the International Assistance Unit within Specialist Crime of the Metropolitan Police.
We are looking for civilian investigators to join the international assistance unit to deliver investigative outcomes in response to requests for international law enforcement assistance, ensuring evidence is lawfully obtained and processed in line with UK legislation. The focus of the role will be to Exercise delegated Police and Criminal Evidence Act powers to arrest, search and seize, and manage UK investigations arising from overseas requests and to lead extradition processes to locate international fugitives and progress cases through the UK judicial system, supporting the National Crime Agency National Extradition Unit as required.

Duties and Responsibilities:
- Conduct investigations arising from international requests, securing, preserving and analysing evidence to support criminal justice outcomes.
- Exercise delegated Police and Criminal Evidence Act powers to arrest suspects, search premises, seize exhibits, and apply for and execute court orders.
- Interview suspects, victims and witnesses in accordance with PIP2 standards, obtaining admissible testimony that progresses investigations.
- Trace victims, witnesses and suspects using open source and police databases, ensuring safeguarding and risk management.
- Prepare case files, statements and reports for transmission to overseas law enforcement agencies to support prosecutions in their respective jurisdictions.
- Liaise with the National Crime Agency, which leads on high-risk extraditions, and manage lower-risk extradition cases referred to the International Assistance Unit, while maintaining engagement with foreign law enforcement partners to progress cross-border investigations.
- Manage exhibits and documentation, ensuring chain of continuity and compliance with disclosure requirements.
- Identify investigative opportunities and lines of enquiry, escalating where further authority or decision-making is required.
- Contribute to the overall effectiveness of the International Assistance Unit team, adapting workload to meet high demand and urgent case requirements. Each Investigator manages approximately 80–90 cases annually, balancing competing international priorities.
Who we're looking for:
- UK criminal law, international co-operation frameworks such as Mutual Legal Assistance, evidential and disclosure rules.
- Ability to obtain and present witness and suspect testimony.
- Ability to prepare evidential files.
- Ability to communicate effectively with UK and international partners
- Recent experience managing complex investigations.
- Experience using CONNECT or equivalent case management systems.
- The role holder must either possess or be willing to possess designated powers under the Police Reform Act.
- This role will require a valid PIP2 accreditation.
