The role involves 24/7 shift work and offers comprehensive training, a competitive salary and pension, and excellent opportunities for career development and progression.

Role and Responsibilities:

Police officers have a wide-ranging role, focused on protecting the public, upholding the law, and maintaining trust within communities. It’s a position of responsibility, of trust, of purpose. Above all, it’s about working as part of a family, a policing family, whether you are on Response or part of Neighbourhood Policing: a team that pulls together as one, rising to the challenge from one shift to the next.

Key duties include:

• Respond to 999 calls and be the first person to attend the incident
• Make critical decisions that can have a lasting impact on people’s lives
• Demonstrate resilience, empathy, and strong communication skills in challenging situations
• Build positive relationships with colleagues and communities across West Yorkshire
• Operate 24-hour shift patterns, including nights and weekends
• Conduct high-visibility patrols, attend public events and guard scenes to protect evidence
• Make arrests and tackle anti-social behaviour
• Carry out crime prevention, investigate a variety of crimes, take reports, interview witnesses, and make face to face enquiries
• Work collaboratively with policing partners to prevent crime, reassure the public and protect vulnerable people

Expectations:

Members of the public expect West Yorkshire Police to recruit people who demonstrate the highest standards of professional conduct, honesty, and integrity. We are looking for individuals who can:
• Deliver a high-quality, professional service at all times
• Be quick-thinking problem solvers and strong team players
• Communicate effectively with the public and colleagues
• Show resilience under pressure

• Uphold the Policing Code of Ethics: public service, courage, respect, and empathy

Following appointment, you will complete 17 weeks of initial training at West Yorkshire Police training facilities in Wakefield. You will then be posted to one of the five operational districts; Bradford, Calderdale, Kirklees, Leeds, or Wakefield, working in a policing role such as Response or Neighbourhood Policing.
