You will support the Operations Manager in overseeing the administrative function within the Firearms Licensing Department, ensuring compliance with the relevant legislation, Home Office guidance and force policy.
You will oversee and undertake the processing, analysis and assessment of applications for the grant or renewal of shotgun, firearm and explosive certificates, and the variation of firearm certificates, ensuring compliance with all relevant legislation and requirements for application.
Your role will be pivotal in ensuring the interrogation of the Police National Computer, Police National Database and other intelligence systems are undertaken to identify and collate information or material that is relevant to the applicant.
When dealing with applications for the renewal of certificates, or grant enquiries returned by the FEO, you will identify and review all available information relevant to the applicant, in order to risk assess and determine whether the application can be granted (known as “green light”) or requires further action and/or consideration at a higher level.
You will also support and assist in the functions of granting, renewing and amending of firearm, shotgun and explosives certificates.
You will be responsible for ensuring the initial risk assessment of applications for the grant of certificates is completed and forward these to the relevant Firearms Enquiry Officer for further enquiries.
As a Senior Firearms Licensing Admin Officer you will mentor and oversee the training of new members of staff to ensure they are competent in their role and initially have weekly progress meetings with the member of staff.
And you will also assist the Operations Manager in the development and implementation of new operating practices, legislation, policies, procedures and to assist with effectively managing change.

We will ask you to be educated to QCF Level 4 (plus English and Maths at Level 2) OR to have the work experience deemed to have brought the postholder to a comparable level.
Some knowledge of firearms and licensing legislation would be beneficial but not essential. The right candidate will have experience managing a busy team, with strong leadership skills and the confidence to make evidence based decisions. You should be highly organised, able to learn new legislation and systems quickly, and comfortable working with sensitive information across multiple databases while maintaining accuracy and consistency.
