About the Role
This is a rare and exciting strategic leadership opportunity for a communications professional to make a meaningful impact in policing. You will play a pivotal role in supporting the delivery of the Chief Constables mission and delivery plan.
Reporting directly to the Deputy Chief Constable and sitting as an integral member of our Executive team, you will help shape the organisation’s mission to drive public trust and confidence in Gwent Police.
You will play a key role in strengthening internal engagement, helping our people feel informed, have a voice, feel valued, and connected through open, honest, and meaningful communication.

Your Responsibilities
- Lead, inspire, and develop a talented Corporate Communications team, fostering a supportive and high-performing culture.
- Take day-to-day responsibility for media, campaigns, and digital communications, using your creativity and initiative to highlight the positive impact of Gwent Police.
- Provide strategic, ethical, and pragmatic advice, challenge, and support to Chief Officers, ensuring communications and engagement are at the heart of effective service delivery and organisational success.
- Influence and advise at all levels, including the most senior officers, to deliver high-impact communications that resonate with a diverse range of audiences.
- Respond to fast-moving, high-profile incidents – from major protests to complex investigations – and help plan and execute proactive campaigns, such as tackling drug driving or supporting vulnerable people.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues across the service, building relationships and ensuring communications are consistent, timely, and aligned with organisational objectives.
- Participate in and help lead a joint 24/7 on-call rota, ensuring our communications response is robust and effective around the clock.
What We’re Looking For
- Demonstrable experience in a senior communications role, ideally within a public sector or high-profile organisation.
- Proven ability to effectively lead and develop teams, manage complex situations, and deliver outstanding results under pressure.
- Creative flair and a strategic mindset, with the ability to craft compelling messages across media, digital, and campaign platforms.
- Confidence in engaging with senior leaders, stakeholders, and members of the public, offering robust advice and guidance.
- Strong ethical standards and a pragmatic approach to problem solving.
