Contract: Permanent, employed by North Yorkshire Police

Hours: Full Time, 37 hours per week

Salary: Scale 3, £25,242 - £26,703

The Opportunity

As a Business Support Assistant, you will provide day‑to‑day support across transport administration, help desk and reception services, client appointments, and general customer enquiries. You will help maintain accurate records, support compliance with legislation and organisational procedures, and contribute to continuous improvement across the service.

You will work collaboratively with colleagues across Police and Fire, supporting the delivery of the Transport & Logistics service catalogue and contributing to key projects and initiatives. Your ability to produce accurate data, meet deadlines, and maintain excellent customer service will be central to your success.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver high‑quality administrative, help desk, and customer support services across Transport & Logistics.
  • Meet agreed KPIs and SLAs while identifying opportunities for service and process improvement.
  • Maintain accurate records and ensure compliance with relevant legislation, regulations, and procedures.
  • Develop a strong understanding of key processes, escalating issues where appropriate.
  • Provide timely and accurate data in collaboration with colleagues.
  • Support research, project work, and service development initiatives.
  • Build effective working relationships with colleagues, clients, and stakeholders.
  • Take responsibility for personal health, safety, and welfare, and work within organisational policies.
  • Engage positively with clients across Police and Fire, providing feedback to support service development.
  • Process invoices in line with Transport Administrator Supervisor guidance.
  • Provide general administrative support including scheduling, correspondence management, and office organisation.
  • Prepare and edit documents, reports, and presentations.
  • Assist with planning and coordinating meetings, events, and conferences.
  • Use office technology and software effectively, including data entry and digital communication tools.

What We’re Looking For

  • Proven experience delivering high‑quality, customer‑focused administrative services, ideally in a high‑volume environment.
  • Strong customer service, problem‑solving, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate effectively across multiple platforms.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and IT systems, with excellent attention to detail and confidence producing accurate data.
  • Knowledge of transport‑related legislation (e.g., vehicle testing regulations) is desirable but not essential.
  • Experience with financial systems or transport support is an advantage.
