Improve trust and confidence

Raise standards

DASO is a department within the Directorate of Professional Standards, set up in 2022, with the aim of improving trust and confidence in policing; both internally and externally.

This a fantastic and challenging opportunity, working within a team of investigators committed to tackling police officers/staff alleged to have committed domestic and/or sexual offences. DASO investigate all gross misconduct matters relating to domestic abuse and sexual offences, whether the conduct occurred on or off duty. Additionally, DASO take ownership of criminal allegations when the offence took place on duty.

You will be part of one of four specialist teams of investigators: dealing with all aspects of safeguarding and investigation.

Your role will include investigating gross misconduct matters and criminal matters where the offence has occurred whilst on duty.

 This will involve:

  • Investigating gross misconduct and criminal matters by gathering, preparing and reviewing evidence
  • Supporting/communicating with victims, witnesses and those under investigation for gross misconduct/criminal offences
  • Taking witness statements and conducting all reasonable lines of enquiry
  • Conducting non‑confrontational interviews where required
  • Attending appointments and, in appropriate circumstances, custody suites, to serve misconduct paperwork
  • Liaising with officers, staff and internal/external stakeholders
  • Maintaining accurate records and ensuring compliance with relevant legislation and procedures
  • Preparing documentation, reports and case files to the required standard
  • Attending hearings and presenting police staff hearings, where necessary

The rostered hours are Monday to Friday, 8am-4pm. DASO currently work one weekend in eight. At this moment in time, there is no requirement to perform on call duties; however, due to ongoing changes across the MPS and the DPS’ Target Operating Model, this may be reviewed in the future.
