Transfer to Coast Command – North Yorkshire Police
Detective Constable Roles
If you’re looking to combine a challenging and rewarding detective role with an exceptional quality of life, a transfer to Coast Command at North Yorkshire Police could be the ideal next step in your career.
Why the East Coast?
Covering Filey through to Whitby, North Yorkshire’s East Coast is one of the most desirable areas to live and work. It offers excellent housing, good schools, a rich cultural scene, and a wide range of sporting activities — both on land and at sea. Add to this the stunning coastline and scenery regularly featured on national television, and it’s easy to see the appeal.
Operationally, the area is just as diverse. Alongside coastal and rural communities, there are significant urban areas and a large year‑round visitor population. This creates a broad and varied policing environment, presenting everything from safeguarding demand to serious and complex investigations.
Who We’re Looking For
We are seeking experienced Detective Constables who thrive in a fast‑paced investigative environment and understand the importance of prevention, early intervention, and safeguarding in tackling local issues.
As a Detective Constable within Coast Command, you will be expected to:
- Confidently assess threat, harm, and risk
- Make sound, independent decisions under pressure
- Work effectively both independently and as part of an investigative team
- Respond professionally in high‑pressure and dynamic situations
- Operate within a high‑support, high‑performance culture
- Value strong partnership working to address community concerns and protect vulnerable people
One Team, One Command
Coast Command is built on a strong “one team” ethos. We are committed to public service, to supporting our people, and to maintaining an open and inclusive culture where feedback, learning, and continuous improvement are actively encouraged.
The role is demanding — but for the right Detective Constables, it is also highly rewarding. If you’re a team player who wants to be challenged, developed, and make a real difference to the communities you serve, this could be the opportunity you’ve been looking for.
