The Role & Key ResponsibilitiesFrom your first day with us you will be part of a policing family making a real difference.
It is our mission to identify and protect vulnerable people, prevent and respond to harm and keep people safe.
It is a very exciting time in the Learning and Professional Development Team within People Services. The unique opportunity has arisen to lead Surrey & Sussex Driver Training Teams as the Chief Driving Instructor (CDI) for a 12 months secondment.
You will be expected to work across both teams site locations.
In this role you have responsibility for overseeing Driver training, ensuring expert, quality guidance, advice and recommendations to support conclusion and outcomes.
The role of the CDI is to advise the police driving portfolio holder in respect of all police driver training matters (police driver training includes pursuit command training). Provide professional SME advice and act as a strategic advisor for driver training to support mitigation of any reputational risk across both Surrey and Sussex.
Manage performance, to ensure the highest levels of professional service and delivery reporting into the Operational Service Delivery Manager.
Providing leadership to the team and building credible relationships with key stakeholders and colleagues in a high demand environment.
Responsible for collaborating Surrey and Sussex Driver Training to align with the current collaborated structure of similar training teams in L&PD. To align practices and procedures and provide efficiencies and effective working practices.
Deputises for the Operational Delivery Manager when appropriate.
Skills & Experience- TEP training qualification or equivalent (or be willing to complete in-house training)
- Have a minimum of NVQ level 2 in Health and Safety. This normally takes the form of the Institute of Safety and Health (IOSH) Managing Safely qualification.
- Be a qualified, competent, and current police driving instructor and meet the College of Policing Standard for Assessors in order to peer assess their instructors in support of the College police driver training licence process.
- Advanced Driving Permit.
In addition, the post holder will be expected to:
Demonstrate an in-depth understanding of the College police driver training licence process, and the management of risk in police driver training prior to appointment.
This must be evidenced in their portfolio which is signed off annually by the police driving portfolio holder, must have their advanced driving permit.
The requirements of the police driver training licence necessitate the full commitment and time of the CDI to the management of police driver training.
The CDI is, therefore, not expected to be routinely involved in the delivery of police driver training. Any appointment or change of CDI is a significant change within the licensing agreement between the licence holder and the College and must therefore be notified and managed as such.
