Job Title: Lead Specification Engineer - Fleet Services

Salary: The starting salary is £60,893 which includes allowances totalling £2,928.

The salary is broken down as £57,965 basic salary, which will increase annually until you reach the top of the scale £63,230 Plus, a location allowance of £1,928 and a non-pensionable allowance of £1,000.

Location: The role is based at Marlowe house but there will be an occasional requirement to travel to various MPS sites and external partners.

About the Role

As Lead Specification Engineer, you will lead and develop the Specification Engineering team, setting technical standards and driving innovation in vehicle conversion and design. Acting as the technical authority, you’ll ensure compliance with legislation and MPS standards while delivering solutions that meet operational needs. A key focus will be supporting the transition to new technologies, including electrification of the fleet.

Key Responsibilities

  • Team Leadership: Manage and develop Specification Engineers, ensuring workloads align with demand and performance standards.
  • Technical Authority: Define and maintain technical standards for vehicle conversions, acting as Subject Matter Expert.
  • Innovation: Lead development of new conversion methods and technologies, including EV solutions.
  • Complex Projects: Oversee specification and delivery for specialist and complex vehicle conversions.
  • Supplier Management: Negotiate with contractors to ensure compliance, functionality, and value for money.
  • Quality Assurance: Inspect and sign off prototype builds, ensuring they meet specifications and operational requirements.
  • Risk & Compliance: Conduct risk assessments to ensure adherence to legislation and safety standards.
  • Continuous Improvement: Identify and implement process improvements and new technologies.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Build strong relationships with internal teams and external partners to deliver effective solutions.
