Job Title: MPS Vetting Operations Manager
Salary: The starting salary is £59,839, which includes allowances totalling £2,928.
The salary is broken down as £56,911 basic salary, which will increase annually until you reach the top of the scale £69,342. Plus, a location allowance of £1,928 and a non-pensionable allowance of £1,000.

The MPS Vetting Unit is an operational strand with the Referencing and Vetting (R&V) Operational Command Unit (OCU). The purpose of this role is to strategically lead Vetting Service Delivery for the Metropolitan Police Service and organise resources to ensure optimum service is provided in accordance with The Police Vetting Regulations, The MPS Vetting Policy, The Vetting Code of Practice and the National Vetting APP.
We are seeking an exceptional Operations Manager to join our team and lead the MPS Vetting function and contribute to the wider leadership of R&V
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the effective operation of MPS Vetting services, ensuring service standards are met and customer expectations exceeded.
- Monitor and control business processes, policies, and systems to deliver efficient and effective performance.
- Identify, assess, and mitigate risks across vetting operations, implementing robust controls to safeguard compliance and service integrity.
- Ensure full compliance with national and statutory guidelines, including Vetting APP, Vetting Regulations, NPCC standards, and relevant legislation, alongside corporate policies such as Health & Safety and HR requirements.
- Manage demand and assess its impact on performance, implementing strategies to build and maintain service quality.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, including DPS, DLS, Vetting SPOCs, Sponsors, College of Policing, National Working Groups, HMICFRS, and NPCC.
- Drive business change across MPS Vetting functions, enhancing efficiency, quality, and innovation through process re-engineering and technology improvements.
- Act as a delegated Vetting Authority under Vetting Regulations, making key decisions in early regulatory processes.
- Provide leadership across multiple teams, serving as first, second, and third-line manager.
- Advise senior officers and staff on all aspects of vetting, ensuring alignment with the Code of Ethics, APP, Vetting Regulations, and MPS Vetting Policy.
- Develop and strengthen leadership capability within MPS Vetting through mentoring, coaching, and upskilling.
- Deputise for the MPS Vetting Portfolio Lead when required.
- Direct and manage budget spend within agreed limits as delegated by the R&V Senior Operations Manager.
Vetting
This post requires access to the most sensitive intelligence material on a daily basis. Applicants must hold or be prepared to undergo National Security Vetting (NSV) Security Check (enhanced) (SC(e)) level before taking up the post; with a willingness to undergo Developed Vetting (DV) once in post, if required.
