Vehicle Recovery Supervisor
Salary: Band 7, £32,874 - £35,772 (Please note it is Northumbria Police policy to appoint at the beginning of the band)
Location- Currently Agile - home working and Northern Communications Centre, Ponteland. However please note this will move to full time working from Cobalt Business Park, North Tyneside in Spring 2027.
Hours- Full time, 37 hours per week
Contract – 12 month fixed term contract / secondment

The Role
Northumbria Police is seeking an experienced Vehicle Recovery Supervisor to lead the Vehicle Recovery Team within our Communications department.
In this pivotal role, you will be responsible for managing the delivery of an effective, efficient and legally compliant vehicle recovery service across the force area. You will oversee staff performance, manage contractual arrangements with external recovery providers, and act as the Force lead for vehicle recovery matters at both regional and national level.
You will ensure full compliance with relevant legislation, maintain high standards of customer service, and provide expert advice and guidance to officers, staff and external partners. This role plays a critical part in supporting operational policing and safeguarding public confidence.
What you’ll do
- Lead and manage the Vehicle Recovery Team, including workload allocation, performance management, wellbeing, training and development
- Oversee vehicle recovery and boarding contracts, ensuring service delivery, financial control and compliance with legislation and Health & Safety requirements
- Manage and maintain vehicle recovery systems, procedures and data, identifying and implementing service improvements
- Act as the Force’s main point of contact for vehicle recovery matters, providing specialist advice to officers, staff and external stakeholders
- Produce reports, statistics and performance information to support senior decision-making and legal, financial and operational requirements

What you’ll bring
- Knowledge of relevant legislation, including the Road Traffic Act and legislation relating to vehicle seizure, recovery and disposal
- Demonstrable experience working within a vehicle recovery environment
- Proven line management experience, including performance and workload management
- Experience of financial or account management
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage confidently with a wide range of stakeholders

Terms of appointment
This is a fixed term / Secondment role subject to a six-month probationary period
