Sergeant Promotion/Transferee Process January 2026
Salary: £53,568 - £56,208 per annum
We are pleased to announce that the promotion and transferee process for the rank of sergeant is now live.
We are looking for innovative, operationally credible and capable individuals who have a proven track record of improving performance to help us remain one of the safest places in the country.
Our sergeants are one of the most critical leadership roles in the force. As well as tackling the day to day operational challenges that policing brings, they are also required to ensure the effective daily supervision, guidance and support of officers and staff ensuring that teams perform to the best of their ability.
To help inform your decision to apply, we have outlined some of the key things that are important to us here at North Yorkshire Police (NYP):
Leadership - We value leaders who coach, inspire and develop their team/s, taking care to understand their needs as well as what is expected of them and how this fits more broadly to the delivery of our strategic aims, objectives and Plan on a Page.
Outstanding Communication Skills - Whether that's with teams, peers, partner agencies and our communities, making sure we continue to value and embrace difference.
Professionalism and Integrity – Role modelling and instilling our values and ethical standards to ensure these are commonplace, you will take ownership to collaborate, resolve problems, sustain resilience and demonstrate courage in dealing with difficult and challenging situations.
Performance Management - Continuously reviewing and evaluating both your own, as well as your team/s performance, against expected standards, providing objective, effective feedback and challenge, where necessary. Taking responsibility and holding others to account for delivery.
Decision Making – You will be comfortable in making clear, objective and timely decisions ensuring others feel trusted, supported and empowered to take responsibility to do the right thing themselves.
North Yorkshire Police is an equal opportunity employer and we are committed to creating an inclusive and supportive working environment. If you require any reasonable adjustments during the recruitment process or within your role, please declare this within your online application. A member of our team will contact you prior to your interview to ensure appropriate support is in place.
