Salary: The starting salary is £53,459, which includes allowances totalling £2,928.
The salary is broken down as £50,531 basic salary, which will increase annually until you reach the top of the scale £55,103. Plus, a location allowance of £1,928 and a non-pensionable allowance of £1,000.

Job Summary
NDES is hosted by the Metropolitan Police Service’s (MPS) SO15 command, and brings together seven strands of digital investigative services. Our vision is to be a world leading service that delivers effective new capabilities for CT policing: to exploit digital technology and deny terrorists and other criminal investigated by the CT Network the ability to operate.
The services within the NDES group include:
Communications Data Exploitation, Open Source Exploitation, Digital Media Exploitation, Lawful Intercept, Technical Innovation and Development (TIDE), Digital Biometric Exploitation, Digital Operations
It goes without saying that the NDES group has specialist ICT requirements and as such depends heavily both on its own dedicated ICT infrastructure and the interface with the ICT systems provided by National Counter Terrorism Policing Headquarters (NCTPHQ). ICT manage primarily the METLAB Digital Forensics Network (DFN). This is controlled, operated and maintained internally by dedicated NDES ICT personnel hosted within the Technical Innovation and Development (TIDE) section.
The post holder for the NDES ICT Infrastructure Server and Application Engineer position, is responsible for conducting ICT support and upgrade tasks for local NDES DFN as directed by the ICT Service Manager. At the discretion of the service manager, there may be additional requirement’s to provide extraordinary ICT support to other regions within the National CT network.
This team of ICT engineers have responsibility for supporting networks, servers, backups, archive and applications on the NDES DFN. It is anticipated that most of the work will be carried out on-site but the engineers may on occasion be required to travel to sites throughout the UK to conduct ICT tasks.
Key Tasks
The post holder will be required to do the following:
- To work as part of a team that provides first, second and third line support of the NDES DFN.
- To be responsible for ensuring the above mentioned NDES systems are secure by implementing, and maintaining recommendations set out by the NCTPHQ Information Assurance teams.
- To work as part of a team that plans and manages upgrades and improvements to the DFN.
- To work as part of a team that provides DFN access ensuring all users have the correct levels of access to networks, monitoring user access regularly and escalating any security threats to Senior Management.
- To assist in the development of effective IT Business Continuity Plans for managing network incidents, and virus control to protect data held by NDES, implementing the plans as and when required.
- To work closely with and supervise 3rd Party Suppliers to ensure Service Level Agreements are complied with, providing relevant feedback about suppliers to Senior Management to ensure the effective negotiation when reviewing Service Level Agreements.
- To support the day to day running of the Data Centres ensuring these areas are in a safe, secure and reliable condition.
- To supervise the installation of new equipment in the Data Centres in order to ensure that environment standards are adhered to.
Vetting
This post requires access to the most sensitive intelligence material on a daily basis. Applicants must hold or be prepared to undergo National Security Vetting (NSV) Developed Vetting (DV) level before taking up the post.
This post requires British nationality (some dual nationals may be ineligible) and an Enhanced Security Check (eSC)/Developed Vetting (DV)] clearance.
As the post holder will have access to very sensitive information, there are limitations on travelling to a small number of countries and we will undertake additional security checks as part of the recruitment process.
