About the Role
We are seeking a dedicated Senior Safeguarding Officer to join our Investigations team. In this pivotal role, you will supervise a small safeguarding team within the MARAC, DVDS, or Child Protection Conference Unit. You will represent Merseyside Police in multi-agency safeguarding meetings, ensuring the effective sharing of police information with partner agencies and making critical decisions to protect children and vulnerable adults.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and support a safeguarding team, providing supervisory management and guidance.
- Represent Merseyside Police at multi-agency meetings, sharing accurate and timely information.
- Make informed safeguarding decisions for children and vulnerable adults.
- Ensure compliance with relevant legislation, policies, and best practices.
- Manage team welfare, performance, and development through structured reviews.
Essential Knowledge & Experience
- Extensive understanding of Child Protection, Vulnerable Adult, and Domestic Abuse processes.
- Knowledge of APP on Information Management, MOPI, Data Protection Act, and Freedom of Information Act.
- Familiarity with Care Act 2014, Working Together 2018, and social care thresholds.
- Proven experience in staff management, multi-agency safeguarding, and risk assessment.
- Strong ability to evaluate information, develop risk management plans, and meet deadlines in high-demand environments.
Skills & Abilities
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, both written and verbal.
- Strong leadership, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.
- Proficiency in MS Office and police IT systems (e.g., NICHE, PNC, PND, CORVUS, STORM, VISOR).
- Ability to research and interrogate systems and adapt to new technologies.
Additional Requirements
- Driving licence and Police Basic Driver status (for travel across the Force area).
- A qualification in risk assessment or risk management is desirable.
