About the Role

We’re inviting applications for the role of Domestic Abuse Coordinator (DAC) within our Safeguarding Team. This is a strategic role supporting domestic abuse initiatives across York and North Yorkshire.

You’ll lead the Domestic Violence Disclosure Scheme (DVDS) portfolio, ensuring statutory compliance and timely responses to Right to Know and Right to Ask applications. Managing a small team, you’ll oversee demand, provide accurate data, and work closely with the wider Domestic Abuse Team and multi-agency partners to improve outcomes for victims and survivors.

Key Responsibilities

The responsibilities below apply to the Domestic Violence Disclosure Scheme (DVDS) portfolio, which is the primary focus of this DAC role:

  • Lead on projects from the Local Partnership Board via NYCC/CYC Domestic Abuse Officers, ensuring DVDS priorities are embedded.
  • Supervise DAOs and ensure timely risk management within DVDS processes.
  • Drive progress on the NYP Domestic Abuse Tactical Plan, reflecting DVDS objectives and statutory requirements.
  • Support and coordinate local Domestic Abuse Forums, sharing DVDS best practice and compliance updates.
  • Promote and sustain the Inspire North initiative, incorporating DVDS awareness where relevant.
  • Maintain oversight of Multi-Agency Risk Assessment Conference (MARAC) processes, ensuring DVDS considerations are aligned.
  • Deliver countywide communication and awareness training, including DVDS guidance for frontline teams.
  • Contribute to policy development and strategic planning, with a focus on DVDS improvements and demand management.
  • Assist with Domestic Homicide Reviews as directed, ensuring DVDS-related information is captured.
  • Work with analysts to provide performance data specific to DVDS demand and outcomes.
  • Share good practice across agencies and forums, promoting consistent DVDS implementation.
  • Support other Domestic Abuse Coordinators in triaging, local meeting attendance (DMM, MAPPA) as directed.
  • Be involved in the weekly Domestic Abuse Coordinator Plan for covering gaps, support with statutory meetings and allocations to DAOs.

 

What We’re Looking For

To succeed in this role, you’ll need to demonstrate:

  • Strong communication and presentation skills
  • Ability to triage and manage risk
  • Confidence working independently and as part of a team
  • Experience advising stakeholders on domestic abuse matters
  • Excellent research, organisational, and time management skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and data handling
  • Ability to manage sensitive information appropriately
  • Willingness to travel across the force area
  • A resilient mindset, flexible working style, and genuine passion for safeguarding and partnership work

Desirable:

  • Experience in multi-agency partnership work
  • Background in domestic abuse or safeguarding
