Job Title: National Strategic Advisor and Coordinator Operational Security (OPSY)

Band B: The starting salary is £59,839, which includes allowances totalling £2,928. 

The salary is broken down as £56,911. basic salary, which will increase annually until you reach the top of the scale £69,342. Plus, a location allowance of £1,982 and a non-pensionable allowance of £1,000. 

Location: Remote working nationally within UK. NPCC is currently based in close proximity to St James’ Park Underground Station, London and therefore occasional travel will be required to this premise and other Police locations across the UK. Contract – Fixed Term Contract until 31/03/2027 (with the potential for further extension subject to funding and performance). 
 

THE NATIONAL POLICE CHIEFS’ COUNCIL (NPCC)

NPCC Serious Organised Crime Team  
The NPCC Serious Organised Crime Team plays a crucial role in communicating the collective views and action of UK police chiefs to the public, government, and stakeholders, building and maintaining confidence in policing at the national level and supporting effective engagement with stakeholders. 


THE ROLE 

The successful candidate would need to have the following experiences and skills: 

  • Breadth of knowledge and of advanced law enforcement capabilities and methodology available in tackling serious and complex crime.   
  • Ability to interpret both complex strategic and tactical information security, assurance, and risk documentation.   
  • A proven ability to assess and manage organisational and operational risk, considering and articulating the implications at all levels. 
  • Ability to deliver advice, consultancy or set direction concerning the identification, assessment, recording and monitoring of risk from an organisational perspective and tgo provide support from strategic to practitioner levels 
  • Manage personal workload from regional and national levels. 
  • Communication skills to influence or inform stakeholders, verbally or in writing.  
  • Ability to challenge stakeholders and senior effectively (both written and verbal) in respect of decision making and complexities.

VETTING  

This post requires access to the most sensitive intelligence material on a daily basis. Applicants must hold or be prepared to undergo National Security Vetting (NSV) Developed Vetting (DV) level before taking up the post.  


Additionally, this material is of particular sensitivity to the UK and its distribution must be restricted to UK nationals. In approved circumstances dual nationals (of which one element is British) may also be granted access. However, in the event that potential conflicts of interest cannot be managed the post holder will not be able to see the intelligence material and will not be able to perform their duties. For the purpose of safeguarding national security and in line with Cabinet Office Policy, supported by Section 82(2) to (4) of the Police Reform Act (2002), applicants who do not hold or acquire Developed Vetting (DV) clearance and meet the nationality requirements cannot be offered the post.

  • We collaborate, Level 3 - Delivering for the public within NPCC Sensitive Equities, requires cooperation and collaboration with multiple partners. How will you decide which relationships are the most important, how you will invest in those relationships and what you will do to create shared goals or aims. You may use examples to support your answer. 
  • We analyse critically, Level 3 - Tell us about a time you have taken ownership of a strategic risk that impacted several parties. How did you assess the risk and what did you do to deliver an effective system response?   
  • We are innovative and openminded, Level 2 - Tell us about a time you solved a complex problem in a new (to you) way. What did you do to explore options? Who did you involve and why? How did you secure support from others for new ways of working?

Occasional national travel may be required. Travel expenses will be paid if location allowance is not being received, or when travel falls outside of the home to work journey. NPCC will pay for overnight accommodation if required.
