The People & Development branch manage training for Greater Manchester Police. Additionally, it provides training expertise to outside agencies both nationally and internationally.

The training delivery is divided into two distinct sections, firstly Operational Training that delivers; dog, driver, Taser, public order and PPST training. Secondly the Crime and Uniform Training which delivers CID, Student and Uniform continuous training.

The Branch hub is centred at Sedgley Park Police Training Centre, but the branch also has secondary training venues at Hough End, Claytonbrook, Openshaw, Whitefield and Hibernia Way.

The role advertised will be within the Public & Personal Safety Training Unit (PPST) whose main office is based at Hibernia Way.

The successful candidate will work on delivery of courses to police officers within GMP such as PPST refreshers, ERGO day 1 & 2, as well as initial and transferee courses. This will include delivery of courses to officers and civilian staff such as the CDO course, Breakaway and Specials courses.

The candidate will need to be confident standing in front of colleagues, deliver training in a methodical and professional way within the training environment as well as classroom based presentations to officers of all ranks from across the country.

The successful candidate will have a broad experience in operational policing and be operationally deployable.

Prerequisites:

• The candidate must hold a current qualification for the JRFT and PPST as a minimum (within the last 12 months.)
• The successful candidate must pass the JRFT test to level 6.3 which is the Public Order Standard; any candidate who is not Level 2 public order will be trained in this qualification.

The candidate must have a current driving licence and be able to travel to the various training venues, the location of which may change. This will often involve carrying items of equipment to and from venues.

Casual Users allowance is applicable. The working hours of the unit are not regulated by a shift pattern and trainers will need to be flexible as to tours of duty depending on the training being delivered – this includes working at weekends.

Candidates will complete detailed and accurate paperwork in respect to courses and delegates, this must be submitted within set guidelines and timescales. Flexibility, ingenuity, and personal responsibility are essential character traits.

These nationally recognised behaviours and values set out the guidance that you will be tested against within any specialist recruitment process. The use of which will provide a consistent foundation for a range of local and national processes to be evidenced and which GMP must adhere to.

This framework will ensure that there are clear expectations of Police Officers working in a policing environment which in turn will lead to standards being raised for the benefit and safety of the public.
