West Yorkshire Police is looking to recruit three enthusiastic and dedicated individuals to work within Protective Services Crime, HOLMES team.
As a HOLMES Indexer, you will provide timely and accurate support to investigation teams, as well building a complete and accurate picture of a range of crime types and criminal activity across West Yorkshire.
The main responsibilities of the role are as follows:
• input and record information into the indexing system on HOLMES.
• Prepare accurate graphical displays of information
• Create and maintain information provided on the HOLMES database to ensure objectives of investigation achieved
• Provide administrative support to investigation.
Ideal candidates will have excellent communication and presentation skills, an ability to work in a high-pressured environment and an ability to identify errors in content or formatting of information. Knowledge of a Major Incident Room and the Criminal Justice System, would also be beneficial.
Jobholders must be prepared to work flexible hours within the relevant bandwidth to suit the needs of the department.
Successful applicants will be invited for an assessment of their abilities and then to an interview. Following this process, subject to supportive references and vetting, there is an intensive HOLMES course for 3 weeks, followed by 6 months of working alongside a mentor.
Assessments will be held on 22nd or 23rd December 2025 and interviews will held during week commencing 5th January 2026.

Once developed in role and upon completion of successful audits, Entry Level Indexers may progress to become Senior Level Indexers (scale 5).
This role is suitable for job share (however candidates must be able to attend full time for the duration of a 3 week training course)
For roles which are advertised as Career Progression Schemes, individuals will be appointed to the bottom scale point of the appropriate grade within the scheme, based on the role entry requirements. Full progression through the scheme may be subject to attaining a specific qualification or successfully passing an assessment or review.
