ERSOU - ROCU - Detective Superintendent - Head of Intelligence
We welcome applications from substantive Superintendents for the role of (Detective) Superintendent – ROCU Head of Intelligence. This is an exciting opportunity to join the Eastern Region Special Operations Unit (ERSOU) as a critical member of our Senior Leadership Team, working as part of the Regional Organised Crime Unit (ROCU) in our mission to reduce the threat of Organised Crime in the Eastern Region.
The successful candidate will work as our strategic lead for intelligence and undercover policing, responsible for the effective management of our intelligence processes in support of all of the unit’s departments. This includes the collection and protection of sensitive intelligence & covert sources, relationships with other organisations, regions and forces, and contributing to the ongoing development of the ROCU’s network’s Intelligence Capability. Additional responsibilities for this role will include participating in the SLT On Call rota, and deputising for the Authorising Officer.
Because of its breadth, this is a leadership role lending itself to applicants from a variety of backgrounds with different skillsets. We anticipate that some applicants will have intelligence management backgrounds and others will be detectives who have led serious or complex investigations within the crime context and all experiences and knowledge can be drawn upon. Applicants will need to have experience and be skilled in managing risk and leading in environments that have involved the use of sensitive intelligence to support serious or complex crimes.
This role is part of a national, regional and local network and as a result you will be required to travel for business purposes. This may include some travel across the UK and is not limited to the East. You will be asked to demonstrate flexibility regarding working hours in line with operational demand and occasionally this may require working away from home.
Above all, what this role requires is the individual to lead the unit whilst demonstrating our ERSOU core values of Professional, Courageous and Inclusivity to allow our people to achieve excellence through an inclusive culture, which holds them to account but allows them to develop and thrive. They also need a proven ability to lead people effectively through change, to be able to lead and manage risk under pressure. Given that the ROCU network is a collaboration with 7 police forces, and which works so closely with other agencies, the role holder must be a person who has shown their ability to build and maintain successful partnership working.
We encourage interest and applications from candidates of all backgrounds, and particularly welcome applications from female and Black, Asian and minority ethic candidates both to enable us truly to reflect the communities we serve, and because we know that diversity of experience and thought leads to better decisions and a better service.
If you are interested in working in a confidential and specialist environment, supporting the integrity of policing, we welcome your application.
