Lancashire Constabulary is looking for a Senior Vetting Officer to join our team. 

This role will be responsible for the management of the CPIP Vetting Team and will assist the Force Vetting Manager in overseeing the strategic direction by developing, implementing, and managing appropriate policies, procedures, and processes to ensure the CPIP Vetting is completed expeditiously, and a quality service is delivered. The successful applicant will be responsible for ensuring thorough research is conducted on all applicants and auditable evidence and risk-based decisions are made. They will work closely with the Estates team to manage the projections and forecasting of contractor Vetting and ensure resourcing levels are able to meet demand and prevent delays being incurred. 

The post holder will be responsible for adhering to the standards as set out in legislation, policies and guidance, including the facilitation of reviews, dip samples and appeals.

The post holder will also deputise for the Force Vetting Manager as and when required.

Key Responsibilities: 

  • To support the Force Vetting Manager to oversee the strategic direction of the Vetting Team by assisting with developing, implementing and managing appropriate policies, procedures and processes, ensuring vetting requests are completed expeditiously and that a quality service is delivered.
  • To make proportionate and auditable evidence and risk-based decisions ensuring appropriate standards are applied in accordance with legislation, policies and guidance including, as required, the facilitation of reviews and appeals.
  • To be responsible for ensuring compliance with the Vetting Regulations in the decision-making process and appeals procedures.
  • To be responsible for monitoring vetting decision outcomes to understand whether there is disproportionate adverse impact on underrepresented groups and take steps to examine and address this in liaison with key stakeholders.
  • To conduct thorough research into applicant’s private and professional lives producing accurate and detailed file summaries to aid effective decision making.

Skills and Experience: 

Eligible applicants must possess a Degree Level Qualification in leadership or willingness to work towards and complete within 24 months.

Vetting and Medical:

Please be aware, as a condition of your appointment you must undergo and pass MV & SC Vetting. Please be aware there is a minimum 5 year UK residency requirement for MV & SC vetting and you must be 18 years old at the point of applying. Successful applicants will also be subject to a medical assessment.
