At the National Police Air Service (NPAS) we pride ourselves on delivering excellence in police aviation.
We know that it is our people that make the service what it is. Our pilots, crews and supporting staff deliver results that save lives and protect communities every day.
Central to our success is the quality of training we deliver as an Approved Training Organisation.
We have an opportunity for a new Training Captain to join our Training Department and play a vital role in maintaining the very highest standards of practice in our flight operations. We are looking for someone who is driven in their commitment to continuous improvement and leads by example.
The role requires a great communicator and colleague, who will proactively manage the performance of our staff, supporting them to be the best they can be.
The role includes conducting training and regulatory flight examination checks, in line with the Operations Manual and to Civil Aviation Authority regulations and standards.
It also involves delivering pilot, Tactical Flight Officer and Operations Centre staff training, assuring Flight Examination checks are delivered to a consistent standard and helping develop training materials.
To be successful in the role, you must hold a valid and current UK Part-FCL Commercial Pilots Licence with single-pilot instrument, multi-engine helicopter and TRI(H) ratings, and UK Class 1 medical for single pilot operations carrying passengers.
A valid TRE (H) Licensing Certificate for multi-engine, single-pilot helicopters is essential.
We also require you to have lots of experience in the delivery of pilot and flight crew training, in a matrix environment, plus:
• a minimum of 2,000 flying hours (1,000 hours as a pilot in command overland).
• a significant proportion of low-level flying and flying at night.
A type rating on the EC135 and at least 30 hours of Night Vision Imaging System flight time (using Night Vision Goggles) as pilot-in-command would be advantageous.
The role doesn’t require shift working but there will be times when you might be expected to work outside of normal office hours, in accordance with the NPAS CAA approved Flight Time Limitations Scheme.
The job is home-based but as we are a national service, you will be frequently expected to travel throughout England and Wales.
A full list of the essential requirements is included on the role profile.
In return, we offer family-friendly policies, a generous annual leave allowance, and a career average revalued earnings (CARE) pension. Plus, expenses for maintaining Class 1 medical and loss of licence insurance scheme. For a full list of staff benefits, check out the recruitment pack on our website: https://www.npas.police.uk/
