Transferee - Police Constable - CHIS Handler - Defford & Malinsgate
Police Constable – CHIS Handler
Defford, Worcestershire and Malinsgate, Telford
Full Time
Several positions have arisen for the role of Constable within the Dedicated Source Unit for Herefordshire and Worcestershire based at Defford Aerodrome and Telford and Shropshire based at Malinsgate.
This is an exceptional opportunity to be part of a small team managing a number of Covert Human Intelligence Sources (CHIS).
Do you have great communication skills?
Can you speak to a wide variety of people?
Are you good at documenting, report writing and risk identification and management?
We are looking for a Police Officer with the right ingredients to join the Dedicated Source Unit (DSU) team as a Source Handler.
The main purpose of the role is to be responsible for recruitment and management of Covert Human Intelligence Sources (CHIS) across the West Mercia policing area.
Don’t worry if you think you that the DSU is too specialised for you. What is most important are your existing skills in written and verbal communication and risk – your technical skills for the role will be developed via full training and on-the-job support. Candidates need to be self-motivated with excellent communication skills, an eye for safeguarding and possess an understanding of the need for confidentiality.
This is a great opportunity to enter a side of Policing that is seldom seen but can be greatly rewarding for the right individual. Some understanding of covert policing would be advantageous but is not essential. A three-week residential Controllers course will need to be undertaken as part of the role and ongoing CPD.
The role does not include routine weekend working but does have an on-call commitment. We would encourage those with an interest to visit the department and speak to either DS Chris Thomas (North DSU) or DI Matt Cartwright.
Please view the role profile attached for the knowledge, experience and key skills of the role.
For further information or an informal discussion regarding the post please contact:

We embrace diversity and welcome applications from everyone. We are happy to talk flexible working where it is suitable for the role.
