The Opportunity
North Yorkshire Police is seeking an engaging, innovative trainer to join our Organisational Learning, Development & Inclusion team. This role offers a unique opportunity to contribute to the professional development of our workforce. Amongst other things you will play a pivotal role in leading the initial training of new Student Officers through a variety of entrance routes, giving them both skills and confidence as they embark on their new careers in policing
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in the design and development of training curricula aligned with national guidelines.
- Deliver engaging training sessions to all officers and staff throughout North Yorkshire Police using a variety of methods, including group activities and technology-based learning.
- Liaise with Student Constables, Student Development Officers, and supervisors to support performance and development.
- Monitor and evaluate training effectiveness, implementing improvements where needed.
- Prepare case papers and reports for Professional Standards or Police Regulation hearings.
- Stay up to date with changes in legislation, Force policy, and training techniques.
- Attend external meetings, conferences, and workshops as required.
What We’re Looking For
- Level 4 or above training qualification (e.g. Education & Training Award) or willingness to achieve within 12 months. Proven experience in designing and delivering learning sessions, using a highly engaging and facilitative delivery style.
- Strong planning, organisation, creativity and communication skills.
- Understanding of adult learning principles and pedagogy.
- Ability to encourage, and support others in their development.
- A team player approach to achieving the strategic aims and objectives of the department.
Desirable Skills
- Understanding of Police Constable Entry Routes (PCER).
- Experience in coaching individuals or teams.
- Formal Assessor qualification (IQA or equivalent).
- Experience with eLearning design and delivery.
- An understanding of how to support neurodivergent learners and make learning accessible to all.
- Knowledge of internal quality assurance processes.
