Your day-to-day role will include travel to designated and approved locations, to carry out enforcement of speed limits and other road traffic offences. You will have access to fully converted vehicles, and high-quality equipment and technology, to aid your enforcement activity. You will typically be required to work independently in this role, but effective team working is necessary with colleagues across the department and the wider Police Force. It is also important that our Safety Camera Officers are confident and professional when communicating and engaging with members of the public.

Here at NYP, it’s our people that really count. It’s their different perspectives, experiences, skills, and backgrounds, which truly make a difference to our communities, and especially making North Yorkshire one of the safest counties in England.

In this role you will:

  • Be responsible for loading and unloading camera enforcement equipment.
  • Review offences captured by yourself on the camera devices.
  • Prepare accurate court files and presenting evidence in court when required.
  • Be responsible for secure storage, retention and disposal of all safety camera media and exhibits.

For further information on the duties of a Safety Camera Officer, please read the role profile.

Along with being able to work collaboratively in a team, sharing thoughts and ideas, to be successful in the role you will:

  • Demonstrate excellent numeric and literacy skills and be confident in using IT equipment with knowledge of Microsoft Office.
  • Have the physical ability to lift heavy equipment at waist and shoulder height.
  • Have excellent communication skills.
  • Demonstrate good administrative skills.
  • Show pride in producing accurate work.
  • Have a current full driving licence due to the need to travel to various sites in Force vehicles (Full motorcycle licence also is desirable but not essential).

Please note that this role requires a commitment to a rotating shift pattern, which varies seasonally:

  • Summer Shifts
  • Early Shift: 06:00 – 15:00
  • Late Shift: 14:00 – 22:00
  • Winter Shifts
  • Early Shift: 07:00 – 16:00
