Initial Training Supervisor

The holder of this post will supervise a mixed team of Police Constables and Police Staff Trainers who are  responsible for delivering training, learning and development solutions to new and existing staff in support of the organisation’s strategic aims, objectives and performance targets. Training Supervisors will be based mainly in the two centres of Exeter and Winfrith, but other locations will be used including Ferndown and Bournemouth. In addition, Police Sergeants carry out a similar trainer supervision role in both forces.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manage a team of trainers (mixture of police officers and staff) all of whom contribute to the delivery of initial training courses. Determining the demand and ensuring that appropriately skilled trainers are available.
  • Responsible for the design, delivery, feedback and evaluation of initial training courses and being aware of the national, regional, Force and departmental strategies, incorporating them into the training material appropriately.
  • Ensures that the spend against the initial training budget is effectively managed and seek opportunities to make financial savings.
  • Working closely with the Training Delivery Manager to identify, develop and manage the delivery of agreed training programmes.
  • Manage/oversee the fitness testing (where relevant) procedure.
  • Maintains relationships with internal and external stakeholders, working with them to ensure the effective delivery of unit business, adopting a collaborative and partnership approach.
